Hacienda Riquelme Golf Resort Guide

Elegance, space and beauty, in the foothills of the Carrascoy mountains

Why Hacienda Riquelme Golf Resort

There are places that catch the eye, and there are places that hold the heart.

Hacienda Riquelme Golf Resort does both.

Beside an organic olive grove, in the foothills of the Carrascoy mountains, part of a protected natural park, the resort lies just 20 minutes from the Mediterranean and 30 from the historic cities of Murcia and Cartagena.

Here, you’ll find a rare balance: space, peace, and nature, on an historical foundation that stretches back centuries.

From the moment you arrive, you feel it.

The pace softens. The light deepens. And the world around you, with its 19 pools, wide fairways, and grand restored Hacienda, reveals itself to you in a rhythm that is uniquely, unmistakably Hacienda Riquelme.

This isn’t just a place to visit, though the resort welcomes thousands of golfers each year, it’s a place to live. To breathe. To slow down. To feel safe. There’s a quiet magic to life on Hacienda Riquelme. It’s much more than a resort.

It’s a sanctuary.

Life at Hacienda Riquelme

Mornings begin quietly. The sun rises over the famous Cross on the hill above Sucina, casting its golden light across the fairways, pools and gardens. Birds, of the 100 different species that have been recorded on the resort, call from the trees, and a new day begins on Hacienda Riquelme. The first golfers appear, setting off for a round, clubs over shoulders, smiles easy in the fresh morning air. Sprinklers catch the sun’s early rays, casting rainbows across the gardens.  At El Cason, the restored original Hacienda of the Riquelme family, which today stands at the heart of the resort, the coffee machine hums to life. The terrace fills. Tostadas, fresh juice, bacon rolls and conversations,  the day unfolding with no rush to be anywhere else.

At Sips coffee shop, golfers prepare for their morning round, whilst Gerald and Nadine bring drinks and food.

At the Lonrah office, our doors open to greet the world and a new day is underway.

The security on Hacienda Riquelme is second to none, the guards here know every corner of the resort, not just as professionals, but as caretakers, looking after everyone and every property.

They carry defibrillators. They respond within minutes. They know your name. In emergencies, they are often the first to arrive. And in every other moment, they are simply there -visible, reassuring, trusted.

By mid-morning, the pools start to come to life, the sunlight shimmering on the azure water.

There are 19 across the resort, surrounded by gardens, open all year, and never crowded. Children laugh in one, a swimmer glides through another and a couple read beside a third, shaded by olive trees.

Life here happens outdoors.

It flows between padel matches and walking trails, between cycling routes and terrace lunches.

In the cooler months, the walking society sets off into the Carrascoy hills, neighbours, turned friends, following trails through wild rosemary and thyme.

Others stay closer to home, meeting for ladies’ lunches, new owner gatherings, or a quiet drink in the walled garden of El Cason.

There is space here, not just physically, but emotionally.

Every home has room to breath, and at least one spacious, private, terrace. Every view is open, across golf, pools, or gardens.

Evenings arrive slowly, the sky turning peach behind the palms. And then the stars come out, and the resort settles – as the pool lights come on, creating a magical backdrop to barbecues, laughter and al fresco dining in the warm night air.

This is life at Hacienda Riquelme.

Everyday Ease

At the heart of the resort, beneath the arches of the Hacienda, you’ll find El Cason, both clubhouse and restaurant, and a gathering place for neighbours, events, and celebrations.

Next door, Sips by Nadine is a resort favourite,  a warm, welcoming café offering everything from smooth coffee and fresh pastries to light lunches and cakes. Whether you’re calling in after a morning walk or meeting friends for a chat, it’s always relaxed, always full of charm.

Steps away, the on-site supermarket is open year-round, with fresh bread every morning, fruit and vegetables, chilled wine, Spanish essentials, international brands, and even English-language newspapers. There’s a postbox for letters home, and a cash machine beside the car park.

It’s this kind of thoughtful infrastructure – quiet but complete – that makes life here so easy.

You don’t have to leave. But when you do, everything is close by.

Whether it’s dinner in Sucina, a swim in the sea, or an afternoon in Murcia, you return the same way each time – past the familiar gate, the gentle wave from security, and the hush of the evening light.

Because this isn’t just a holiday destination.

It’s a home.

And it works – beautifully, day after day.

Golf at Hacienda Riquelme

Hacienda Riquelme’s 18-hole, par 72 course was designed by Nicklaus Design to test both strategy and skill – and it’s known as one of the most challenging and memorable layouts in the region.

At 6,356 metres from the back tees, it’s long. But it’s the clever bunkering, tiered greens, and open landscape that make it such a rewarding course. Fairways are wide but deceptive. Approach shots demand thought. When the wind picks up, every hole plays differently.

Set within a protected natural park, the fairways are grassed with Paspalum Vaginatum, a salt tolerant turf that uses less water and maintains superb playability even in high summer.

The Hacienda Riquelme Golf Society, proudly sponsored by Lonrah, meets twice a week and runs weekly competitions, social meets, and annual tournaments. The course also hosts brand-sponsored events from names like Porsche and Jaguar Land Rover.

The greens are consistently excellent.

The atmosphere is welcoming.

And the golf is quietly superb.

Homes with Space, Light, and Views

Every property on the resort is an apartment, but these homes are unlike anything else in the region.

Set across a low-density layout, with no high-rises and no wasted views, each apartment looks out onto something beautiful, the golf course, a glistening pool, or natural gardens woven between palm-lined paths.

The architecture is timeless, whitewashed facades, soft terracotta roofs, and a layout that feels more like a Spanish village than a modern resort.

Inside, homes are spacious and light-filled, with generous kitchens, wide windows, and large terraces that open to the sun. All include underground parking with lifts to all levels.

There are no villas or town houses at Hacienda Riquelme, and that’s part of its beauty.

This is a resort of ease and flow, with fewer buildings and more open skies.

Whether you’re looking for a holiday home, a long-term escape, or a high-performing rental, the apartments here offer lasting value, charm, and peace.

Each one is part of something larger:

A resort that feels settled, grounded, and full of life.

Life, Community, and Connection

There’s something deeply special about the way life unfolds here.

Days begin slowly, coffee on the terrace, a walk through the gardens, a round of golf. Then the rhythm builds: friends by the pool, neighbours meeting at El Cason, laughter in the warm sunshine.

At the resort’s heart is a strong, international community.

People know each other. They help, share, chat, and wave hello every time. It’s warm, open, and inclusive.

The Golf Society and Cycling Club, both proudly supported by Lonrah, typify the groups that form the social fabric of the resort, with events, meet-ups, Spanish classes, also in our office, and tapas rides to Sucina, summer evenings of music under the stars.

Because, on Hacienda Riquelme, whether it’s your tenth year or your first week, you belong.

Sucina - Traditional Spain, Right Next Door

Just five minutes away lies Sucina, a timeless village full of heart, character, and charm.

At its centre is an 18th-century church, surrounded by plazas, cafés, and narrow streets.

Life here is traditional and alive, from Easter processions to Christmas Nativities, and October’s month-long Fiesta that lights the whole village.

You’ll find:

  • La Destilería – Neapolitan pizza, Wagyu steak, sushi, oysters, and cocktails (TripAdvisor 5-star rated)
  • Taj Classic – fantastic Indian food with free resort pick-up and drop-off
  • Bar Rosario – for morning coffee and tostadas
  • La Mario’s – for full English breakfasts
  • Mesón del Vino –  rustic, regional cuisine
  • Casa del Fuego – grilled meats and local wine
  • Franc-Louise Sports Bar – every match on, with a friendly international audience.

In summer, Lonrah proudly sponsors the iLoveSucina Festival, with live music in the square every Friday and Saturday night.

It’s real. It’s welcoming. And it’s right there, when you want it.
